Amazon – Jesuits of the Amazonian Preference (BRA) defend indigenous and lay leadership
In the pan-amazonian area, presence of Jesuits has always been highlighted. In fact, last week, in an interview published by Religion Digital, the Cardinal Pedro Barreto, also a Jesuit, defined the Amazon as "the most forgotten area of the planet”. In the case of Brazilian Amazon, Jesuits are currently present in different regions, in what the Society of Jesus calls Amazon preference. The members of this preference group, together with lay collaborators, met in Manaus from December 4 - 7, 2018. Their reflection was about how they express their commitment to the Amazon, and developed an Apostolic Plane for the Preference. The General Assembly is the highest governing body of the Federation of Fe y Alegria Movement. It comprises 22 member countries, the General Coordination, and the Presidents of the Conferences of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe. To enrich the Movement's sustainability, the General Assembly provided input and recommendations to the executive team.
