Global – Educate by humanizing the heart

On 18 October 2023, Fe y Alegría in Ecuador held the opening event to mark 60 years of service to education. More than 700 people from different parts of the country gathered to commemorate the important date. The meeting was honoured to have the presence of delegations made up of our students, teachers, directors, parents and parents from the Pichincha Regional, South Regional, Manabí Regional, North Zone, Santo Domingo Zone and Central Sierra Zone.

"We are heirs to this great hope, and we are that seed that seeks the earth, we are strength, we are a big family, we embrace the environment with love and commitment, we are innovation, we are rural and popular education and above all we are Fe y Alegría".

These words accompanied the performance of over 65 children and young people who created the artistic ensemble to kick off this celebratory space. The presentation, directed by the theatre and mime group Trompos y Garabatos, took the audience on a journey through the history of the [Fe y Alegría] Movement, highlighting the values, mission and vision that are brought to life in each educational community.

The panel focused on the challenges of post-pandemic education and inclusion in higher education for people with disabilities.

Micaela Pazmiño, a former deaf student at the Fe y Alegría Educational Unit in Santo Domingo, shared her testimony about the challenge of studying given her condition. She pointed out that in her educational centre, she had a teacher for an interpreter, which helped a lot in communication and developing her knowledge.
