Global – CLADE Coordinator invites Fe y Alegría to take actions through advocacy

As part of the Federative Leadership Training Plan, the "Advocacy and Defense of the Right to Education from Fe y Alegría" seminar took place. During this meeting, we had the participation of Nelsy Lizarazo, General Coordinator of CLADE (Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education), who sparked an enriching conversation around the following ideas:

Political Advocacy from Understanding Power:

Nelsy addressed the importance of understanding political advocacy as a profound transformation of systemic realities that generate control, submission, inequalities, and poverty. She emphasised that political advocacy is not limited to the state level; it is expressed and realised at all levels and spaces. Education plays a fundamental role in developing the critical thinking necessary to dismantle the individualistic matrix that supports the system of domination.

View of Education in the Development of Political Capacities:

The importance of education in the development of political capacities was highlighted. From the classrooms, efforts are made to strengthen critical thinking and empower students as subjects of their rights, capable of demanding and defending themselves against temporary political actors.

Walking with Alliances and Collaborative Coherence:

Nelsy emphasised the need to build alliances within our organisation and with transformative movements in different geographies. She stressed that the construction of alliances should be consistent from the grassroots, avoiding it being just rhetoric without support in action.

View of Transformations from Social Movements:

The speaker urged better reading of the context and recognising real transformations underway, such as feminist, ecological, and youth movements. Learning to anticipate and act proactively in the face of these changes is necessary.

Federative Leadership Training Plan:

This seminar experience was shared by the second cohort of the Federative Leadership Training Plan, composed of collaborators who provide services at the country level in their Fe y Alegría organisations. These leaders have actively worked on constructing a federative mindset, highlighting the richness of learning communities that allowed them to share experiences from various contexts.
