Brazil – V Meeting Play is Urgent of the children of the CAC
Since 2018, Fr. Freddy (CAC) – Social Center of the Network for the Promotion of Socio-Environmental Justice of the Jesuits of Brazil – held the "Play is Urgent", meeting of the children of the CAC as a culmination of the activities offered throughout the year and conclusion of the Playing Workshops held in each of the partner communities. It is an activity proposed in the Flor-e-Ser Project Autonomy and Socio-environmental Protagonism in the Amazon, which offers training to educators and popular educators, socio-educational activities for children and adolescents and social assistance to enrolled families.
On November 24th, with the theme "From the children's heart of the Amazon, songs for peace echo!", suggested from the reflections made by the children and adolescents themselves in the preparation meetings, the 5th edition of Playing is Urgent took place at the SEDUC Servers Club (ASSEDUC). Accompanied by a team of volunteer Popular Educators, art educators and volunteers, more than 90 children from seven CAC partner communities began the meeting with a Playful Parade around the club, provoking residents to reflect on the rights of children and adolescents to quality education, public spaces for leisure and culture and to live safely and without any form of violence.
With shouts of peace, slogans and popular songs, the parade made it possible for children and adolescents to highlight their dreams and desires reflected in the Toy Workshops. From the looks and suggestions of the Frente Children (representations of children in the communities), the meeting was full of mystique, joy and tranquility, allowing time for leisure, games and collective play, animated and directed by a volunteer art educator.
Cleide Prata, Volunteer Educator in the Jesus Libertador community – Guamá/Belém, said that her heart was full of gratitude for seeing the joy of the children and for hearing from them how wonderful the meeting was and for hearing from their mothers, how happy they were to see in their children's faces the happiness of living this day. Vitória Assunção, a child from the Novo Florescer space, Bairro Cipriano Santos/Belém, said that the meeting was very cool, fun and playful and that the people were kind. For her, this moment changed her life because it allowed her to interact with others and access a leisure space outside her neighborhood.
For Fr. Valério Sartor, superior of the Apostolic Nucleus of Pará, the V Meeting Playing is Urgent of the Children of the CAC was a very beautiful moment where the children had the opportunity to play, smile, shout and have fun, with a lot of freedom and joy that comes with being children. The physical space and the care of the educators made this pleasant and well-deserved moment possible for them. Offering this opportunity to children is a great gift, with the Grace of God, that we can give them as recognition of their right to be children.
