Mexico – Mining company ‘La Victoria’ threatens to invade indigenous territories
The presence of the La Victoria mining company was detected a year ago in this region of the Northern Sierra of Veracruz, exploring the municipalities of Huayacocotla and Zacualpan, Veracruz and Agua Blanca Hidalgo, without permission from the community authorities. They arrived like thieves, furtively and clandestinely, trying to infiltrate the collectives by means of people who believed them to be honest. The team of two Jesuits and ten lay people from this work of the Society of Jesus in this sierra has been accompanying the Nahuatl, Tepehua and Otomi peoples for 45 years in the lines of Community Organization, Defense of Territory and Corn.
