Latin America – Hospitality SJMR BRAZIL
The program "ACOLHE BRAZIL" mobilizes solidarity networks for Ukrainians and Afghans.
This initiative of the Jesuit Service to Migrants and Refugees Brazil, which was born in 2018 to support the internalization of Venezuelan migrants and refugees, begins a second stage with the objective of favoring the reception of Ukrainians and also Afghans.
The program seeks to raise awareness and identify welcoming spaces through organizations, parishes, communities, movements, supportive families, who have the interest and availability to welcome Ukrainians and Afghans.
At this first moment, no people interested in being welcomed are registering, the proposal is to identify welcoming spaces with partners that offer dignified conditions.
"From this process, we will be able to facilitate their coming to Brazil, or welcome people who are already in the country and have nowhere to stay".
From the first moment of interest in welcoming refugees, it is essential that comprehensive assistance be planned in order to promote their socioeconomic and cultural integration in Brazil. "The goal is to establish a welcoming and organized hospitality to assist in this local inclusion."
This new stage of the Acolhe Brasil Program aimed at Ukrainian and Afghan people who are arriving in Brazil has 5 steps:
STEP 1. Raise awareness and consolidate welcoming spaces: "If your
family, community, collective is interested in welcoming families, single
people and have a space or even in your home count on welcoming conditions for
up to 3 months, while SJMR works with partners to promote integration and
inclusion and safe conditions for a new start in Brazil."
SJMR Brazil encourages communities and parishes of the Catholic Church throughout the country to host at least one family and provide dignified conditions for a fresh start in Brazil. P
