A Moral Call to Support the Fossil Fuel Treaty
Catholic groups are responding to the climate crisis as a core responsibility, following the teachings in Laudato Si’ and Laudate Deum. This movement views the issue not only as environmental, but as a matter of human dignity and global stability.
The current approach links climate change directly to poverty and social injustice. It calls for a shift away from fossil fuels—including coal, oil, and gas—to protect shared global resources.
The Role of SJES
The Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) is a key participant in this effort. SJES integrates environmental advocacy into the work of the Society of Jesus, focusing on how climate issues affect vulnerable populations.
