Rome – Voices: Featuring JCEP and the GIAN Ecology Network (Ecojesuit)
VOICES is a series of videos presenting the Jesuit Social Apostolate worldwide. We publish sharing from Filipe Martins on the Jesuit Conference of Europe (JCEP) and Pedro Walpole on GIAN Ecology.
Filipe outlines five networks that focus on various aspects of social engagement. They are a) Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), which addresses the needs of migrants and refugees from crises such as the Ukrainian conflict, Syrian crisis, and Afghan displacement; b) the Xavier Network, which emphasizes Jesuit contributions to global development and emergency responses in the global South; c) Social Delegates in each of the 16 provinces in Europe, coordinating social activities; d) Social Centers, promoting reflection, publishing, and advocacy work; and e) Eco-delegates network, dedicated to ecological and climate justice, encouraging ecological transitions and awareness within the Jesuit Provinces.
Pedro Walpole, the leader of Ecojesuit or GIAN Ecology Network, highlights the Ecojesuit work areas. It brings together Jesuit institutions and addresses global ecological challengesto amplify the voices of indigenous people, youth, farmers, and marginalized communities facing environmental risks. Ecojesuit actively shares stories and actions from local and regional levels, connecting them to global discussions, such as the recent COP28 and those at other international forums. They also call on individuals to discern their lifestyles for greater well-being and sustainability, emphasizing the role of youth and the need for a new political reference centred on reconciliation and collaboration to create a shared vision for a sustainable future for all.
You are welcome to listen to, share, and connect with these networks and contribute to making this world a better place to live.
