Beirut – Jesuit response to Beirut Explosion

On August 4th a massive explosion devastated Beirut port killing 200 people and wounding some 5000. Lebanon was already facing a double crisis after taking in almost 1 million refugees fleeing from the Syrian war amid the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The Society of Jesus got immediately into action, starting by the Lebanon Jesuit Refugee Service, severely hit by the explosion: its schools, its regional and national offices and a social centre located just 1.5 km away from the epicentre of the explosion were heavily damaged.
