Nicaragua – Jesuits stand in solidarity with the people of Nicaragua
The Conference of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Central American Jesuit Province and the Association of Universities entrusted to the Society of Jesus in Latin America have joined in condemning the Nicaraguan government for escalating violence in the country. In a statement released on November 20, a day after government riot troops suppressed a student protest at the Jesuit University of Central America (UCA) in Managua, the Jesuits in Latin America said they “reject and condemn the attempt by these government-controlled groups to violate the University campus” and called for the “cessation of harassment, aggression and violation of the human and civil rights of the members of the opposition”.Read more…
