India – Lok Manch: increasing women’s awareness

"Lok Manch stands by women, makes them aware of their rights and how to access them, promotes their participation and involvement". Sister Ruby, project coordinator, told the audience attending the meeting "India. Lok Manch, the network listening to the cry of the poor", OK link, organised on 6 November by the Magis Foundation under the patronage of the Faculty of Missiology of the Gregorian University. Lok Manch, link ok, the people's platform that since 2015 has been networking marginalised communities with civil society organisations in 13 states of India to restore dignity and rights to the poorest, is particularly concerned with the issue of gender in a country where only 46% of the female population is illiterate, where only two thirds of young people between the ages of 6 and 17 attend school, where 25% of girls marry at too young an age, where women are often excluded from family, social and political life. Read more...
