As part of its Values Education Programme (PEV), aimed at promoting youth, Foi et Joie [Fe y Alegria or, Faith and Joy] DRC has changed its training policy by calling on resource persons from the upper social class to address young people living in remote areas.

From 17th to 19th May 2023, the Bakhita Partnership for Education (BPE) will convene an Indaba in Lusaka, Zambia dubbed “Keep-the-Girls in School” to consider the state of girls’ education in Africa in the wake of the unprecedented school closures caused by COVID-19.

The just concluded JCAM bi-annual plenary that took place from the 24th to the 28th of April 2023 was special because it saw an important encounter with Father John Guiney, SJ (HIB) and Ms. Sandra Racionero-Plaza, who serve at the Jesuit Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat of the Jesuit Curia in Rome.

In response to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the Jesuit Justice and Ecology Network Africa (JENA) echoes the words of Pope Francis in his encyclical Fratelli Tutti, "Every human being has the right to life, and this right is not negotiable."

Ketakandriana (Ke) Rafitoson is the Executive Director of Transparency International in Madagascar and coordinates the Publish What You Pay coalition in the country. She speaks to Séverine Deneulin, Director of International Development at the Laudato Si’ Research Institute, about her work and what Jesuit networks and institutions can do to promote integral ecology in the context of mining and just energy transitions.

It was a momentous gathering that brought together Province Social Delegates from various regions across Africa and Madagascar, with the aim of strengthening JENA's collective effort to build the Conference, as well as plan towards the universal mission of the Society.

Forest land in Madagascar is increasingly shrinking. According to Global Forest Watch, from 2001 to 2021, Madagascar lost 4.36Mha of vegetation cover, which is equivalent to a 25% decrease in vegetation cover since 2000, and 2.14Gt of CO₂eq emissions.

Upon an invitation by Fr. Angelo Munduni (sj), director of Radio Kwizera, African Jesuit AIDS Network (AJAN) in collaboration with Radio Kwizera oversaw a successful AHAPPY TOT in Kwizera, Ngara district of Kagera province.

After COP 26 fails to address the question of climate justice, African countries intend to take advantage of COP27 in Africa (Egypt) to be heard and bring the world nations to commit to this issue and many others for safeguarding the planet.
