Africa – The African Catholic Church takes an active part in COP 27
After COP 26 fails to address the question of climate justice, African countries intend to take advantage of COP27 in Africa (Egypt) to be heard and bring the world nations to commit to this issue and many others for safeguarding the planet. The African Catholic Church has wanted to participate actively in this campaign. Its preparation for this event and the size of its delegation rightly testify to this.
To
gain a deeper understanding of the current challenges of climate change, it organised
a series of five dialogues: African Climate Dialogue. The exchanges resulted in
a declaration that will be the subject of their advocacy.
For their presentation, a large delegation led by Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, Vice-President of SECAM (Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar), with the support of the Congo Basin Ecclesial Network, went to Egypt. There they joined the delegation of the Holy See and the Egyptian Christian churches to form a sizeable body (Catholic Actors for Climate Change) for the defence of our common home.
