Latin America – Continental Assembly of the Jesuit Network for Migrants, begins
The Jesuit Network with Migrants (RJM) of the Conference of Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL) has its continental assembly from 7 to 11 November in Bogota (Colombia).
Having continental assemblies is a special provision in the network's guidelines. Typically, assembly meetings are held at the level of the network's regions: Central and North America (RJM CANA), the Caribbean, and South America (RJM SURAM).
Although networking dynamics have never ceased, this is the first face-to-face assembly since November 2019. More than 90 women and men linked to the network, plus guests, will be present in Bogota. Given the worsening rights violations, the widening of protection gaps, and not having had in-person meetings for some time, it was prudent to convoke a continental assembly
There will be presentations from various territories, borders and sectors that make up the RJM, specialists in migration and refuge, shelters, parishes, universities, human rights centres, the media, etc. Also expected to participate are guests from ALBOAN, Entreculturas, Magis Americas and Canadian Jesuit International, representatives of other CPAL networks such as FLACSI, the Youth and Vocations Network, and Fe y Alegría. The presence of representatives of government teams from three member Jesuit provinces of CPAL is also vital.
The assembly will be an opportunity to strengthen networking strategies at the continental and regional levels. Although the RJM is an apostolic platform of the Conference of Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL), there is also a strong link with organisations from the Jesuit Conference of the USA and Canada (JCCU).
Some methodological steps are to be adopted to advance the agreement and strategy of the network. The first and most important is context analysis: the reality that calls us. Therefore, in addition to identifying the main trends and challenges in the migration context, the Continental Research on Migration and Refuge process will be collectively closed.
