World Day of Social Justice

Abstract

The General Assembly recognises that social justice is indispensable to achieving and maintaining peace and security within and among nations. "Justice cannot be achieved in the absence of peace and security or respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms.

>> There are several barriers to be broken down to guarantee and defend human rights. However, a big step towards promoting equality recognises the necessity to give visibility to social causes through the peacefulness of nations.

For the Socio-Environmental Justice Network, within a perspective linked to Integral Ecology, social justice is part of Socio-Environmental Justice.

"Promotion of Socio-Environmental Justice (PJSA) concerns all actions collaborating to overcome the injustices present in our historical heritage and reproduced by the current model of extractivist and financial development, generator of social inequalities and unspeakable environmental destruction. Pope Francis presented the concept of Integral Ecology supported by the Theology of Reconciliation; implied is the idea of (in)justice concerning living together in our Common Home, in all spheres of relationships, with the invitation to an urgent and necessary process of reconciliation and construction of just relationships.

>> It is basically about all human relationships: relationships with God; interpersonal, generational, gender, racial-ethnic, religious, cultural, social, political, economic, and also with the gifts of Nature."(MPJSA, 2022).
