On 1 May, the Jesuits in Myanmar prayed for workers all over the world remembering, in particular, the millions who have lost their jobs due to the current crisis. The poor are the hardest hit economically and socially.

Ecojesuit, one of the four international advocacy networks under the umbrella of the Social Justice and Ecoloy Secretariat, released recently a video. Its theme: the balance of life, the oikos of economy and the oikos of ecology.

Since mid-march the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) has been holding bi-weekly extraordinary meetings with the six Conference delegates, the four GIAN leaders, along with the Xavier Network (XN) emergency group to share and listen to one another about the Covid-19 crisis situation in various countries, in the Conferences and networks.

Since the early days of the quarantine, the Ateneo de Manila University and the Society of Jesus have been organizing a relief operation to aid poor families who have lost their regular source of income “We are doing this because we share a common humanity.

As the coronavirus crisis deepens and its impact unfolds on over 1,340 million population of India, it is pertinent to take the ground reality as given and plan any response. At this juncture every common and conscious citizens of this country are grappling with the various impact and fall out of this crisis.

The coronavirus crisis highlights the inequalities between countries. Today more than ever we are aware that there are things that cannot be subjected to the logic of the market: the value of human life, the protection of every human being, the universality of health and care for the most vulnerable people and the planet.

While Earth Day may feel different this year, connecting with creation is just as vital in this time of isolation. In many ways, coronavirus reminds us that we are all interconnected, interdependent on one another and on our Earth.

The Jesuits and the De La Salle Brothers in the Philippines have joined hands to raise funds for people affected by the coronavirus disease. Together, they have raised more than $200,000 (10 million Philippine pesos) to feed around 500 homeless individuals staying in safe shelters and more than 6,000 urban poor families in Metro Manila.

The coronavirus has had profound impacts on the global community, and the border is no exception. Due to policy shifts and the realities of structural inequalities, migrants and asylum-seekers have been heavily impacted by the implications of the virus.
