PROMOTIO IUSTITIAE No. 138

A Journey of Justice and Reconciliation

ROME – The Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat is pleased to make available the printed edition of Promotio Iustitiae No. 138. This issue is dedicated to reflections on faith, justice, and the global mission of the Society of Jesus in the context of the fiftieth anniversary of the 32nd General Congregation (GC32), exploring its legacy, challenges, and future horizons.

In this context, the present edition offers a profound opportunity to reconnect with our history and vocation. As Fr. Roberto Jaramillo, SJ, Secretary of the SJES, notes in his presentation, “The commemoration of fifty years since General Congregation 32 (GC32) offers a special opportunity to revisit a moment that was not only significant in the history of the Society of Jesus but also crucial for understanding who we are today and how we live out our mission.” The reflections and testimonies gathered in this issue reveal that GC32 remains alive and relevant today.

The pages of this volume, now made available in full, bring together reflections and testimonies that demonstrate that GC32 remains alive. Far from being a closed chapter, it is presented as an ongoing process that continues to generate life, questions, and searching. From this perspective, several contributions invite readers to revisit concepts and practices that have become hallmarks of our mission, including the Faith and Justice paradigm, the communitas ad dispersionem, being sent to the frontiers, and communal apostolic discernment.

The collection of articles featured in this issue shows that GC32 was both a moment of grace and a moment of rupture, whose impact continues to unfold today. It highlights how the mission of serving faith through the promotion of justice retains all its vitality, continually calling the Society to reinvent itself, to listen to the poor, to engage in dialogue with the secular world, and to collaborate ever more broadly with others.

From the SJES, we encourage you to print a copy of this edition and place it in shared spaces within your Jesuit communities and institutions (schools, parishes, research centers, universities, radio stations, and others) so that it may be available for reference and reading. The journal is published weekly on our website through monthly thematic eight-day publication cycles and is currently available in Spanish, English, and French. Should you wish to share a brief comment on any article, your contribution will be most welcome. Please send it to: [email protected].
