A call to support essential Jesuit charities
For over four decades, the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) has represented hope and support for refugees and forcibly displaced persons worldwide. Operating in 58 countries, JRS’s commitment to accompanying the most vulnerable reflects its humanitarian ethos, inspired by Catholic social teaching.
However, the US government's announcement in January 2025 that it would suspend all foreign aid for at least 90 days has profound consequences for the continuation of this important work.
Several life-saving services for people in vulnerable situations in Chad, Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Iraq, South Africa, South Sudan, Thailand, and Uganda risk being adversely impacted.
The International Federation of Fe y Alegría, a Jesuit initiative which promotes social transformation by providing quality and inclusive education to marginalized communities, also faces significant disruptions to its human and educational operations due to the unprecedented policy shift of the US government.
Now more than ever, your solidarity and support are crucial to continue the vital work of these Jesuit charities, which rely on the generosity and goodwill of individuals, organizations, and governments in order to keep on making a positive impact in the world.
