Honduras – More than 220 organizations denounce the murder of Oscar Oquelí Dominguez and demand justice for his family and the human rights defenders in Honduras

The Justice in Mining Network denounce the unfortunate acts of violence against defenders of land, territory and common goods in Bajo Aguán, in Honduras. So far in the year 2023, at least 8 murders have been registered in the region of people whose only crime has been to raise their voice to defend human rights and the territory they inhabit. The last of these attacks ended on June 15 with the life of Oscar Oquelí Dominguez Ramos, leaving his mother, Catalina Ramos, wounded in the same attack. We want to express our solidarity with his family and friends and with the communities of Guapinol, San Pedro sector and the Municipality of Tocoa that suffer this violence on a daily basis.

Below we reproduce the statement of the Observatory for Justice of the Guapinol River Defenders that we have signed along with more than 220 national and international organizations.
