Latin America – “Women’s Commission” in the Society of Jesus
In response to the biddings of recent General Congregations, Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, established and supports a Commission on the role and responsibilities of women in the Society of Jesus.
In the light of the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) and with a deeper understanding of the relationship between Faith and Justice, Father General invites us all to collaborate in the work of the Commission and to show renewed boldness in embodying the spirit of Decree 14 of General Congregation 34:
- First, to evaluate the reception and implementation of Decree 14 of General Congregation 34 in the Jesuit Apostolates.
- Secondly, evaluate women's participation and situation and the structures of collaboration at all levels in the institutions of the Society of Jesus and its apostolic commitment.
- And thirdly, based on this evaluation, to make recommendations to the different levels of government of the Society of Jesus and proposals for the effective development of practices in our apostolic works.
It is foreseen that this Commission will last three years. Therefore, Father Sosa will decide on the following steps after the Commission presents its final report and conclusions.
