Sch Foka Boris Wadem S.J.
We warmly welcome Sch Foka Boris Wadem SJ
(AOC) from Cameroon, the new Coordinator of Communication at the SJES office,
Rome. Boris, on completing his Philosophy studies in DRC has joined SJES-Rome
to begin his regency. He succeeds Sch
Fala Valery Ngong Ekem SJ(AOC), who successfully completed his 2 years of
regency at the end of July 2022. Valery has begun his Master’s studies in
Environmental Management at the University of San Francisco, USA. We wish both
Boris and Valery ‘All the Best’ in their new mission in the coming years.
We also welcome the two new Conference Social Delegates: Fr Filipe Martins SJ(POR), for the Jesuit Conference of Europe (JCEP) and Ms Julie Edwards, from Australia for the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP). We express our deepest gratitude to their predecessors Fr Peter Rožič SJ (SVN) and Fr Adrianus Suyadi SJ (IDO), for their dedication and commitment to social justice ministry and their creative ventures during their term as conference social delegates.
Julie Edwards is currently the CEO of Jesuit Social Service (JSS) in the Province of Australia. She will assume her new role as the Secretary for Social Ministries from 1st of January 2023. She has 45 years of rich experience as a practitioner in social development, spirituality and leadership. In addition, she holds a doctorate degree in social work from La Trobe University, Victoria, Australia. She was the leader of GIAN – Justice in Mining network for some years.
Ms Julie Edwards
Fr Filipe Martins S.J.
Filipe has a degree in Electronics Engineering, and before entering the Society of Jesus in 1995, did one year of volunteer work in Mozambique. He studied Theology in Madrid and Rome. After returning to Portugal, Filipe served the province successively as Vocations Promoter and Director of the University Pastoral Centre of Coimbra, then as Coordinator of the Social Sector and Director of a Centre for homeless people in Oporto, and then as Socius to the Provincial. For the last three years, before arriving in Brussels, he was engaged in the renewal process of a Jesuit School in the North of Portugal.Filipe assumed his role as the Social delegate of the Conference and director of the Jesuit European Social Centre (JESC) on 6th September 2022.
We wish Boris, Felipe and Julie, immense joy, satisfaction, creativity and an abundance of blessings from God and from each one of us in their new responsibilities entrusted in Social ministries and best wishes to Valery, Peter and Adri in their new mission in the Society of Jesus.
