Venezuela – At St. Xavier del Valle we are committed to the Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents
As a continuation of the process of formation in defense of the rights of children and adolescents (NNA) that San Javier del Valle offers to its students, in the framework of the second objective of the Apostolic Plan of the Province 2021-2026, we extended the proposal of education in rights inside and outside the classroom until the end of the school year 2021-2022.
To continue with this process that began in January 2022 and whose purpose was to influence the development of psycho-emotional and social competencies of young people, from the Pastoral Coordination and the Guidance Department, with the support of the person in charge of citizenship formation, we continue to provide complimentary spaces to talk about the rights of children and adolescents during the Third Moment of the School Year (April, May and June 2022). At this moment, we can say with satisfaction that we have met the proposed goal since we have been able to attend to 100% of the students.
Although this initiative arose from the need perceived in the diagnosis carried out with the Educational Community during the First Moment of the 2021-2022 School Year (specifically, misinformation on human rights was observed), it is worth adding that during the training spaces that took place in the Second Moment, needs arose that were not foreseen in the original plan, for example, the urgency of socializing the Protocol for Prevention, Intervention and Monitoring of Violence against Children and Adolescents produced by UNICEF and Fe y Alegría, and also the commitment to reinforce the content of the articles of the Organic Law for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (LOPNNA).
To meet these new needs, with the collaboration of the teachers of Guidance and Coexistence and with the contribution of the teachers of School Religious Education (ERE), we worked directly with the Protocol of prevention, intervention and monitoring of violence of Fe y Alegría Venezuela and with the itineraries of the Huellas Youth Movement that deal with human rights and the articles of the LOPNNA. In the days where they worked with such material, students had the opportunity to reinforce what they had learned in the first meetings and also the possibility of acquiring new information: international and national legal system that guides the legal approach to cases of violence, types of violence and prevention routes of violence against children and adolescents.
It should be noted that the young people managed to generate their own fruits by capturing in physical or digital form for social networks the result of their reflection; they produced posters and brochures to place inside the facilities of San Javier and text messages to post by WhatsApp groups of parents and representatives.
At this moment San Javier del Valle has the challenge of accompanying students who have the ability to recognize their rights within the Institution, in their communities and in their homes. For now we can only bet on the trust that we have tried to build together institution-student so that young people find in San Javier a safe space to express themselves and seek help.
