Nepal – Fe y Alegría Nepal is Born
Fe y Alegría begins its activity in Nepal, and thus a new stage in its internationalisation process and its commitment to quality education on the Asian continent. The inauguration of the social centre in Kavre, near Kathmandu, is an important step in this direction. This project is the result of the work and effort made in recent years in response to the earthquake that shook the country in April 2015, and now aims to be a centre from which to promote the educational activities of Fe y Alegría.
The Xavier Network, a network of NGDOs of the Society of Jesus, of which Entreculturas is a member, has been tracing over the years a path of accompaniment and support for the most vulnerable people living in Nepal. "It is an achievement and I am happy to see that, after five years of remarkable intervention in the form of care for the victims after the earthquake, this work is expanding", thanks Arturo Sosa SJ, Superior General of the Society of Jesus in this video. "It is also a joy and hope to know that Fe y Alegría Nepal is becoming a reality", he adds.
Little by little we are closing the emergency work: reconstruction of schools, distribution of food and other basic goods, work with women's groups, training of young people, etc. and launching, with great enthusiasm, a new process of work under the inspiration of Fe y Alegría. To this end, during this inauguration, the International Coordinator of Fe y Alegría, Carlos Fritzen SJ, and the Regional Superior of the Jesuits, Amrit Rai SJ, signed a document that defines the framework for further progress in the mission of Fe y Alegría Nepal. On behalf of Entreculturas, our colleague Pilar López-Dafonte travelled to Nepal to accompany Fe y Alegría during the inauguration of the centre and to help in the process of emerging from the emergency and the new path in development proposals.
This symbolic moment has also reflected the efforts of so many people, institutions and networks that have joined forces to continue accompanying the Nepalese population.
