The Antonio Ruiz de Montoya University (UARM), promoted by the Society of Jesus in Peru, has created the Institute for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons (IPMEP), attached to the General Direction of Research of the university.
With the creation of this institute, the UARM seeks to contribute to the protection of children, adolescents and people in vulnerable situations through the development and implementation of prevention and research measures against violence and abuse in all its forms.
Dafne Zapata, a
psychologist studying for a Diploma in Child Protection at the Center for Child
Protection (CCP) in Rome, will be in charge of this center. Claudia Neyra, a
candidate for a master's degree in Community Psychology, with experience in
clinical intervention in cases of violence and development of social projects,
will be in charge of its coordination. Nino Villarroel, SJ, a Jesuit student in
his last year of Psychology, will also participate in the team.
UARM's Director of Research, Juan Dejo SJ, highlighted that IPMEP is the first initiative of its kind in Latin America (along with Mexico) to be carried out by an academic institution. He also indicated that an interdisciplinary team will be convened to develop training programs and research on abuse prevention and the promotion of a culture of care.
