Jesuits for Climate Justice SB62 Bonn Climate Meetings

JESC is part of a worldwide Jesuit initiative called Jesuits for Climate Justice, which is deeply committed to advocating for a just and sustainable future, where no one is left behind. This initiative is currently leading a campaign towards COP30, the UN climate summit happening in November in Brazil. COP30presents a pivotal opportunity for international leaders to move beyond declarations and commit to meaningful action on the growing climate crisis. Climate action isn’t just an environmental necessity, it’s a profound matter of justice for vulnerable communities and for generations to come.

As part of the COP30 campaign and its three calls (see the Global Statement and the Policy Brief below), a group of Jesuits and team members from Jesuit Missions UK and JESC will presencially attend the SB62 Bonn Climate Meetings in June, and organise a special side event during its second week (which will be livestreamed). Also some elements of the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) in Rome and Centro Arrupe of Madagascar will follow the meetings online. The group will be actively advocating for the campaign’s three core aims, and will publish daily recaps to keep you informed of the latest developments in the negotiations.

Accompanying the SB62 Bonn negotiations

SB62 (Subsidiary Meeting n.62) refers to the upcoming United Nations climate change meetings in Bonn, Germany, taking place from June 16 to 26, 2025. These sessions are where experts and countries will discuss important climate issues in preparation for COP30 later this year.
