Loiolaetxea
Loiolaetxea was founded in 2001 as the result of joint reflection by Jesuit social entities in the Basque Country, with the aim of offering an alternative space for intervention in social reintegration processes, especially in the prison system in Gipuzkoa.
Since our inception, we have believed—and continue to believe—in the centrality of participation, community ties, and access to rights as fundamental tools for social transformation. Not only for individuals and groups in situations of exclusion, but for all social agents and society as a whole.
We are committed to social and community inclusion, and to a connection that is inclusive and never exclusive.
Currently, Loiolaetxea is made up of different communities of hospitality and life distributed throughout the historical territory of Gipuzkoa, accompanying different groups: migrants, people in situations of social exclusion, and people with prison experience. We are a space for meeting and accompanying many people and groups who participate in, build, and recreate this common proposal on a daily basis.
In this way, together with other public and private social initiatives, we contribute to making our territory a more just, fraternal, and supportive place.
As an example of one of the activities we carry out, on March 7 and 8, as in previous years, we will participate in the Javierada, a massive religious and popular pilgrimage held annually in Navarre to the castle where St. Francis Xavier was born. We will walk together: women, men, girls, boys, adults, from different backgrounds, religions, and countries, as a symbol that love, sharing, and creating bonds continue to be the most powerful forces for transforming the world.
