Returning to the Healer: A Lenten Reflection
During this Lenten season, we are finding our way back to Jesus. In doing so, we find ourselves answering his persistent, piercing question of Jesus: "Do you want to be healed?"
All too often, this question is pushed aside. It goes unheard or unanswered in the depths of our hearts, muffled by our indifference to sin, which numbs our spiritual senses. We settle for the ache because we have grown accustomed to the darkness.
Saint Oscar Romero stands as a beacon for us during this season of conversion. He did not hesitate; he gave a definitive yes to God’s call. Even now, long after his martyrdom, we can still smell the perfume of the healing he brought to a broken world.
He was a seed planted in the earth - one that died so a harvest of justice could grow. His life remains a living protest against sin and a call for us to awaken from our apathy.
The following article from The Tablet explores this aspect of Romero’s life. It invites us to closely examine his journey and, through his voice, hear the urgent call to conversion. May his example help us break through our indifference and embrace the healing Jesus offers.
