Rome – A New Cycle of Promotio Iustitiae

We are beginning a new cycle in PROMOTIO IUSTITIAE's life. We want to revisit the idea of making the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat's communication system a forum for conversation about our mission, with ideas, proposals, experiences, and questions shared among the members of the whole Apostolic Body of the Society.

This publication, begun in 1977, has changed as it has sought to respond to the needs of the mission within the possibilities of the Secretariat. It began as a 'mimeographed' bulletin to share ideas and experiences, almost as a forum for discussion and mutual enrichment. It was gradually transformed into a thematic journal on universal social issues. Initially, the bulletin was published quarterly, and the subsequent journal grew to two issues a year. For a long time, several generations of Jesuits regularly found a printed copy of Promotio Iustitiae sent from Rome in the community hall. Later changes in the media and modes of communication made it a 100% virtual magazine.

Now on, we will publish its articles weekly on the secretariat's website (link) in various forms: articles of analysis, narration of significant experiences, and testimonies of different members of the apostolic body; we will also republish some of the texts offered in past magazines. All this, in a year, will lead to a printable monographic edition.

We are going to use only the tree official languages of the Society of Jesus: French, English and Spanish. With the help of AI (present in most part of the internet browsers) translation to local or regional languages can be easily made.

On this occasion, Promotio Iustitiae issue No. 137 is dedicated to Agroecology, Food Security, and Climate Change.

We thank all the authors of this first issue, prepared for publication in the traditional format. We invite you now to savor the magazine in smaller doses and, above all, to use the Secretariat's communication channels to share your opinions, readings, questions, ideas, successes, and difficulties.

Big fraternal embrace.

ROBERTO JARAMILLO, S.J.
