Fe y Alegría celebrates 68 years of service to popular communities and excluded sectors. The dream of social transformation born in Venezuela, in Caracas, on March 5, 1955, is still alive and has significant future challenges.

The pandemic caused by Covid19, climate migrations, human mobility, forced by wars, authoritarian governments and religious fundamentalisms put at risk the enjoyment of the human right to quality education. Fe y Alegría is a relevant actor in overcoming these obstacles.

During the last International Congress of Fe y Alegría, Jesuit General Superior Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, recalled the popular origins of the Movement. He challenged Father Vélaz, SJ, Patricia and Abraham Reyes to light the spark that today generates a fire of co-responsibility and service in the popular sectors of America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Fr. Arturo Sosa insisted on the challenge that Fe y Alegría has to work to reduce inequalities caused, among other factors, by the pandemic and by economic, political and social structures that generate oppression.

Regarding the future and taking advantage of the experience of 68 years of learning from popular education, what are the challenges facing the Movement, and where should we work to promote and guarantee the right to education for all?

Fe y Alegría continues building spaces for transforming societies, with more than one million participants, forty thousand collaborators, and volunteers.
