Latin America – Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees
On September 25, the Catholic Church celebrates the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. This year's theme is Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees. From the Jesuit Network with Migrants we always join in the celebration of this day making reference to the initiatives led from the Vatican. This year, moreover, we feel a special harmony with the proposed motto, for many reasons.
First, because we feel a strong connection with our own identity. Building with is an echo of the name of the network, Jesuit Network with. And this, far from being a slogan, is both a choice and a challenge: how to generate the conditions for listening, participation, empowerment of migrant, displaced and refugee populations, how to recognize and be guided by their own agency and agenda? We recognize in this both a must, a desire and a conviction.
Secondly, by the word future. Future refers to something radically different, a world without violence, where migration is the exercise of a right and not the forced consequence of violence, of flight. Talking about the future is intimately connected with our proposal of Hospitality (this year in a new face-to-face and itinerant exercise: The Caravan 2022), and with our mission of Reconciliation and Justice.
There are many initiatives in which our extended family at global and regional levels, as many of the works linked to the network will celebrate this day. Also as part of the Clamor Network we join in the multiple celebrations around the Day of Migrants and Refugees.
Today we would like to share with you three levels of proposals and resources:
- To learn more about the proposal of the Migrants and Refugee Section of the Vatican access here and the message of Pope Francis access here.
- To learn about the initiatives of the CLAMOR Network both at the Latin American level as well as its national networks, follow it on its social networks @redclamor on twitter.
We find particularly interesting, for its concreteness and closeness, the photographic report proposed by JRS International and Jesuits Global "Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees", taking the call of Francis to put in the center the most vulnerable people and reminding us that only together we can grow in peace and dignity, the report covers several experiences of accompaniment and welcome that open to learning with the people with whom we walk in a deeply fraternal construction and from there transforming .
