Latin America – Fe y Alegria Strengthens Child Protection with the Society of Jesus
Fey Alegría (Faith and Joy), committed to strengthening the capacities of those who protect
children and adolescents, has joined the training process, "Acts of
Successful Actions in the Elimination of Abuse," promoted by the Centro de
Estudios Cristianisme i Justicia (Center for Studies on Christianity and
Justice). The Jesuit General's Secretariat for Social Justice and Ecology
supports the training through the Promotion of a Consistent Culture of
Protection (PCCP), a strategic project of the Society of Jesus to achieve
effective prevention against abuse.
Sandra Racionero Plaza, the assistant coordinator of the PCCP Project, gave the course consisting of six synchronous virtual sessions held every Thursday from February 15 until March 21. The course is a response of the Society of Jesus to provide continuing formation to those committed to getting to the roots of abuses and promoting coherent actions for safeguarding.
The training provided scientific evidence of social impact on the prevention of sexual abuse of children and adults. National officials for protecting children and adolescents from the countries of Venezuela, Panama, Argentina, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Spain, Ecuador, and Bolivia and those responsible for safeguarding children and adolescents of the International Federation of Fe y Alegria participated in the training.
For its part, Fe y Alegria embraces this formative process in its urgent plan to act immediately against abuse. It faces the challenge of implementing organisational policies to protect children and adolescents. Therefore, it prioritises the 22 national Fe y Alegría groups and the educational centres where the mission and identity thrive. Fe y Alegria is confident that being connected with the Promotion of a Consistent Culture of Protection of the Society of Jesus allows it to collaborate in the promotion of actions, procedures, policies, and standards that would enable it to be increasingly involved with the Provinces and Conferences for protecting children and adolescents.
