Rome – Discerning together to serve better : Annual meeting of the SJES team
From 26 to 30 June, the members of the SJES will gather in Rome for their annual meeting for the 2022-2023 pastoral year. The meeting is a response to the call of Father General, who, at last year's SJES annual meeting, recognised how networking was also a "challenge for the social apostolate in the Society" since the 36th General Congregation.
Through this annual meeting, coordinators of the social apostolate could "build relationships with each other, connect, pray and discern together in a synodal process," the SJES Secretary expressed in his convocation letter.
To gather together in Rome shall be the entire leadership team of the apostolic body of the Jesuit social apostolate, namely, Fr General's Social Justice and Ecology secretariat led by the Secretary for Social Justice and Ecology, Xavier Jeyaraj; the social apostolate delegates from the six Jesuit Conferences worldwide, CPAL, JCAM, JCAP, JCEP, JCCU, JCSA; the four leaders of the various branches of the GIAN--Ecojesuit, Gian Migration, Justice in Mining and Gian Right to Education; and, the safeguarding coordinating team. The secretariat's advisory committee shall also be present.
During the five-day meeting, the participants will have the opportunity to get to know each other better and pray together (Day 1); to discuss the challenges and opportunities in their different areas of action (Day 2); to discern a joint project and better understand their roles (Day 3) and, finally to listen to updates on the PCCP [safeguarding] project, Artificial Intelligence, the "Women's Commission," and linkages with other apostolic secretariats of the Society (Day 4). It is hoped that by the meeting's end, the delegates will have a clearer idea of organising and responding best to the Society's apostolic mission of reconciliation and justice.
