Latin America – ACLO foundation sustains an Ecology action for indigenous people.

On 5 April 2022, in the Santa Rosa community of the autonomous Guaraní territory of Huacaya, department of Chuquisaca, an inter-institutional meeting was held, convened by the Guaraní Captaincy of the Santa Rosa de Huacaya Zone, to coordinate the management and correct use of water from the pear tree built in the Itangua community.

The meeting was attended by indigenous and community authorities, representatives of non-governmental institutions working in the area, and most importantly, the technical team of the company that built the dam, with the main objective of dialogue and finding joint and coordinated actions of their activities for the implementation of irrigation systems in four communities: Mandiyuti, Santa Rosa, Itironque and Villa Mercedes whose producer families will benefit in a first phase and the incorporation of the Camatindi community is planned for a second phase, making a total of 5 communities that will benefit directly from the dam.

Among the most important conclusions reached were: the support received by the organisation and the beneficiary families with the irrigation system and the commitment to execute projects that promote the implementation of irrigation systems for agricultural production.

In this first stage, 322 hectares will be irrigated through the implementation of communal and family drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, initially benefiting 281 producer families.

The ACLO Regional Chaco Foundation has been working on the implementation of technified irrigation systems for more than 4 years in the indigenous Guarani and peasant communities of the Huacaya territory, all of this as adaptation measures to face climate change, water scarcity, food availability and food security.

As a first step, we committed ourselves to carry out a market study of the economic productive potential of the area and an agronomic design in coordination with the dam construction company and the Capitanía Zonal Guaraní de Santa Rosa.
