Chad – Health: A Project that Saves Lives
Strengthening health services in urban and rural areas to reduce communicable and non-communicable diseases in Chad. This is the objective of the project curated by Magis Foundation and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation - Khartoum office - AID 04/Chad/12022/2021. The initiative aims at improving health and diagnostic skills of one hundred Health Centers and one hundred Community Health Officers, technical staff of laboratories and health personnel, through specific training courses.
Chad, with a population of 21.7 million, ranks 187th out of 189 countries in the Human Development Report's 2020 index. It has a life expectancy of 54.2 years. It is one of the countries in the world with the lowest population-to-medical ratio. The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted that the already structurally fragile health sector is unable to cope with systemic pandemics. The Magis Foundation project is part of this reality.
It is precisely through the training of Community Health Agents that local communities will be made more aware of the dangers of communicable and non-communicable diseases, becoming more aware of the importance of prevention, screening and treatment. The Community Health Agents will be important reference points for the community and "agents" of connection with the Health Centers. In this way, the project will contribute over time to reducing the mortality rate, promoting access to health facilities for prevention and early diagnosis. The regions involved in the initiative are those of N'Djamena, Mandoul and Moyen-Chari.
