Spain – “Companies for the Common Good”, On the Road to Socio-Environmental Justice
Throughout the months of January, February and March 2022, the seminar "Companies for the common good" was held at the Molinuevo campus of Egibide in Vitoria-Gasteiz, organized by SETEM and Alboan, with the collaboration of Egibide and Udapa, and the funding of the City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The seminar, consisting of four sessions, has served to deepen the role of the company in the context of Alava, highlighting some key elements for the eco-social transition of economic and social entities. It has been a space for dialogue and meeting with the participation of specific people; agents from the business, social, educational and public administration sectors in Alava who are involved in the promotion of a more human economy; people from different sectors or with different experiences and links to different economic and social sectors.
In the forum it has been stated that for years we have been living an economic and social crisis that is a consequence of an economic system that generates the discarding of people and the exploitation of nature. For this reason, there is a need for socio-environmental justice at the local and global levels to promote a transformation of the model towards a more just, humane and sustainable economy.
In this sense, one of the great challenges is good corporate governance. Contributing to the transition of the business model towards sustainable development is key. Business is a key player in the development of societies. Its practices can have positive or negative impacts depending on how they are oriented. It is therefore essential to work for the elimination of practices that harm dignified life, the sustainability of the planet or generate inequality and exclusion.
The program of the seminar can be consulted here.
