Latin America – COMPARTE publishes Popular Economy Systematization

A publication of the COMPARTE Network provides information on the inner workings of a Latin American Popular and Solidarity Economy (EPS) initiative. More specifically, it systematizes the experience of the Hogar de Cristo Corporation, a Jesuit social work with fifty years of history.

Hogar de Cristo (HdC), a member of the COMPARTE Network, wanted to share its lessons learned - even those that have been the result of mistakes and difficulties - with all people and organizations interested in the EPS, especially those who are looking for methodological clues to strengthen their own initiatives.

This systematization stems from the COMPARTE Network's interest in deepening the knowledge of experiences in financing and promoting entrepreneurship in marginal urban contexts in Latin America, and has been carried out by a group of professors from Deusto Business School, based on in-depth interviews and bibliographic review within the framework of their collaboration with the Network.

Comparte is a learning community for alternative development, linked to the Society of Jesus and present in eleven Latin American countries, where various social works accompany around 400 economic-productive processes. This publication is a reflection of the Network's and the Society of Jesus' commitment, more broadly, to the management and collective construction of knowledge and skills.

Those who wish to learn more about the case can consult the academic study:Microfinance andentrepreneurship in marginal peri-urban environments. Systematization of Hogarde Cristo's Popular and Solidarity Economy Program in Ecuador.

The full version of the study can be found in the article: Red COMPARTE en Guayaquil: emprender eneconomía solidaria. (Only in Spanish)
