Latin America – Webinars on Integral Ecology
Throughout 2020, the Integral Ecology Peer Group of the CPAL Network of Social Centers organized a series of webinars with the objective of generating critical and propositional analysis in the field of integral ecology.
Since the Encyclical Laudato Si (2015) Pope Francis directs all the forces of the Catholic Church in the world towards a systemic thinking, in the understanding that everything is interconnected, towards the care of the Common Home.
With a long history
of work in defense of fundamental rights and life in Latin America, the Jesuit family,
through its Conference and its Network of Social Centers in the continent,
assumes the responsibility of orienting more deeply the theme of
Socio-Environmental Justice in its different works. In this movement, during
the General Assembly of Social Centers in 2019, in Mexico, the Peer Group on
Integral Ecology was created.
This group, composed of OLMA and SARES (Brazil), INFOCAP (Chile), Centro Prodh (Mexico), Centro Montalvo (Dominican Rep.), ERIC (Honduras) and SEPSI (Peru), then develops a three-year work plan (2020-2023) that has as its first main objective to subsidize the Social Center Network and all works interested in the topic, through the construction of a Guiding Framework for Work in Integral Ecology.
For the construction of this Framework, a participatory methodology of study and reflection was developed through virtual seminars that took place throughout the year 2020. Each seminar addressed Integral Ecology in interface with some of the main socio-environmental issues in Latin America, such as pandemics, climate change, Amazonıa, Human Rights, Defense of Territories, Employment and labor, among others.
These seminars are available on the YouTube channel "Somos Jesuitas". Through a detailed systematization, the group of social centers involved advances in the construction of this milestone, which is intended to be launched throughout the first half of 2021. Likewise, in collaboration with the Radio Network and within the group of ecology referents, we are working on the construction of podcasts and radio programs with the content of these seminars.
