Promotio Iustitiae 139: Socio-Environmental Justice and Artificial Intelligence

Ethical and Political Challenges from the Perspective of Christian Faith and Ignatian Spirituality

ROME – On July 10, the Secretariat for Social Justice and Ecology (SJES) will launch the publication cycle of issue 139 of Promotio Iustitiae, titled: “Socio-Environmental Justice and Artificial Intelligence – Ethical and Political Challenges from the Perspective of Christian Faith and Ignatian Spirituality.”

The progress of artificial intelligence is not neutral; it is a cultural, social, and political phenomenon that reflects structures of power and economic interests that can deepen patterns of exclusion. For this reason, Promotio Iustitiae 139 is conceived as a space for ethical, social, and spiritual reflection that addresses AI through the lens of human dignity and the Christian and humanist traditions.

Over the next eight months, a weekly publication cycle will be released, organized into monthly thematic streams. Critical areas will be addressed, including: the impact of algorithmic bias, the transformation of human labor, surveillance and social control, bioethics, and integral ecology. Each month will feature four articles: the first offering a more theoretical analysis, the second presenting a case of practical application, the third a testimony from key stakeholders, and the final week providing material for dialogue and engagement with other publications and perspectives.

We like to offer tools for discernment that ensure this technological innovation serves the common good and fosters a culture of shared responsibility.

We invite the entire community to follow our weekly publications and join this space for ongoing reflection and dialogue.
