The Jesuits for Climate Justice Campaign (JCJC) presents this updated Statement for COP31, informed the outcomes of the Bonn Climate Conference (SB64) in June, and the First Conference on the Transition Beyond Fossil Fuels in Santa Marta, Colombia in April.

As people of faith, we reaffirm our urgent responsibility to protect our common home and defend climate justice. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and the lived realities of impacted communities that we accompany—especially Indigenous Peoples, deprived communities, and those people and groups historically marginalized—we call on global leaders and negotiators at COP to seize the remaining window to limit warming, end the fossil fuel era, and ensure a just transition centered on human dignity and ecological healing.

Together with many people of goodwill inside and outside the Church, we press for equitable, science-based policies that deliver reparative finance, safeguard human rights, and accelerate an inclusive transition beyond fossil fuels.
