Venezuelan refugees and forcibly displaced people need the commitment of the international community.

The networks and organisations of the Society of Jesus and the Red Clamor call on the international community to address the realities of the 7 Million Venezuelan refugees and forcibly displaced people.

The International Conference of Donors in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants will be held in Brussels on 16-17 March 2023 in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the European Union and the Government of Canada.

Several Jesuit organisations and the Red Clamor have approached state representatives and delegates to this Conference to present the realities of the 7 Million Venezuelan people who have been forced to flee their country due to a crisis that has been invisible to the world for seven years.

As Catholic Church organisations, we call on the international community to address the humanitarian situation in Venezuela and to insist on a democratic and peaceful solution to the crisis because as long as the crisis persists, migration will remain the only way to save the lives of many people.

Considering the pandemic's effects and restrictive political decisions, we call on states to ratify their commitments to protect the human rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. We also call on them to focus their actions on responses that allow regularisation, integration and access to human rights in the receiving countries so that people can contribute to and with the host communities in developing their life projects.

We insist on solidarity, welcome, hospitality and reconciliation as principles that allow us to recognise and enhance migration's positive aspects and counteract discrimination and xenophobia. This Conference is an opportunity to commit the necessary resources to achieve international goals and commitments and provide a coordinated response among States and international organisations.

The recommendations presented by the signatory organisations can be found in the document ESP /ENG /FRA /POR
