Argentina – Uruguay – Caravan for hospitality

The Caravan for hospitality is a continental tour for the promotion of a culture of welcome and encounter, making stops in communities and cities in the region that receive migrant, refugee and displaced populations. It is an itinerant action of the Jesuit Network with Migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean (RJM-LAC), in coordination with the Jesuit Migrant Services (SJM) and the Jesuit Refugee Services (SJR) present in each country of the region. It seeks to generate spaces of recognition in the encounter with otherness, and of celebration of the diversities that inhabit our territories.

Through a varied repertoire of activities such as thematic events, artistic interventions in public spaces, work meetings, encounters with actors with significant presence in the territories, group dynamics, among others, the Caravan promotes views, experiences and conversations around the construction of hospitable societies.

This includes joint initiatives in and with universities, schools, parishes, Church pastoral teams, allied civil society organizations, host communities and migrants, refugees and displaced persons themselves.

The Caravan for #hospitality departed on April 1, 2022 from Cúcuta, on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, and has since continued its journey south through the cities of Boa Vista, Manaus, Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre in Brazil.

Between August 15 and September 8, 2022, the Caravan for #hospitality will pass through Uruguay and Argentina, in an itinerary articulated with SJM ARU. It will arrive in the Uruguayan town of Rivera (border with Brazil), and will pass through Tacuarembó, Rocha and Montevideo to continue to Argentina, where it will have stops in the city of Buenos Aires, San Miguel (in the Buenos Aires conurbation), Córdoba and Mendoza.

The Caravan for #hospitality will continue its journey through Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, to return to the starting point in the border region between Venezuela and Colombia. It is planned that its closing point will be in Bogota in November of this year.
