I am Elba Polanco. At some point in my life, I discovered that serving was one of my passions. I feel I have a sensitivity which allows me to enjoy, when I serve, helping other people. Moreover, my learning to serve was fostered in great measure by seeing my father passionately serving other people; the rest is history, as God has taken care of infusing me with His grace.

“We need to go out then to the ‘outskirts’ where there is suffering, bloodshed, blindness that longs for sight, prisoners in thrall to many evil masters”, and “go beyond the church walls”.

Miyashita Park is a park located in Tokyo’s Shibuya ward, a major commercial center. Many people experiencing homelessness have stayed in Miyashita Park in small cardboard or other structures since the late-1990s.

I entered the Novitiate in Manila in 2003 and at that time I don’t have any other inclination on what particular ministry I will be in except that I was hoping to become a priest someday and might end up in a parish. But little did I know that the apostolate assignments I was given as a novice and as a scholastic would eventually shape my interest and desire to engage in Social Apostolate for the most part of my Jesuit life.

Mr. Vieng is a strong, 57 year old man from Laos. I knew him in 2009 in the prison in Thailand, where I work for the Jesuit Ministry. Vieng is a very hardworking and humble man who loves planting and gardening

In 1988, the year of the Seoul Olympics, I graduated from college and immediately entered the Society of Jesus. As we novices were beginning the second year of novitiate we made a 19th annotation "spiritual exercises in daily life."

As we nearly complete three years of our existence as the Ecology Program of Jesuit Service-Cambodia, we look back and ask ourselves, “What can we be happy about since we began working together for the environment in Cambodia?” We started early in 2013, with two fresh graduates from Banteay Prieb, our vocational school for persons with a disability.

This first plenary meeting of social apostolate Jesuits and collaborators of the Japan and Korea Provinces took place in conjunction with the 2015 Gangjeong Peace Conference. This setting was chosen because 14 Jesuits and collaborators of the Japan Province attended the Peace Conference, and 13 of them stayed for the social apostolate meeting.

I have for the past three years worked in a service called Connexions as part of my regency, which I entered shortly after completing my Masters in Counselling Psychology at Boston College.

Labor migration from the Philippines continues to rise, as employment prospects, both for skilled and non-skilled workers, in the country remain limited. At present, there are roughly 10 million Filipino international migrant workers all over the world.
