Asia Pacific: Growing the safeguarding network
The conversation on safeguarding has been ongoing within the Society of Jesus for some years. A three-year project was launched: the Promotion of a Consistent Culture of Protection (PCCP). Fr John Guiney SJ and Ms. Michelle Hennessy presented the findings during the online Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) Major Superiors Assembly held in July. Under the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat, the project adopts three focus points: Awakening, acknowledging the reality of the issue and understanding that it is a social justice; Awareness, which includes the creation of policies and guidelines, case management, training and formation; and Action, which entails listening, accompaniment, and promoting prevention, justice, and healing. The General Assembly is the highest governing body of the Federation of Fe y Alegria Movement. It comprises 22 member countries, the General Coordination, and the Presidents of the Conferences of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe. To enrich the Movement's sustainability, the General Assembly provided input and recommendations to the executive team.
