Global - Five years with Laudato SI

The encyclical Laudato si’ (LS) has the date 24 May 2015, the day Pope Francis signed it, although it was made public a few weeks later. Therefore it is five years since we started to “live” with LS. From the start, some of the expressions “integral ecology” (to which the whole of chapter IV is dedicated), “Everything is connected” (LS, nos. 117 and 138), or “We are faced not with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental” (LS, n. 139) etc., have captured the attention. They have also become fashionable slogans, with the risk of a rapid trivialisation of their content. So, even an encyclical can remain a victim of the culture of disposable goods and the craving for sensationalism. Read more…
