Latin America – On behalf of Mother Earth and the community: “Buen Vivir” (Good Living) versus “deve

The XV Meeting of the Indigenous Solidarity and Apostolate Network of the Society of Jesus in Latin America took place from August 17th to 22nd, 2018 under the heading: “On Behalf of Mother Earth and the Community: Interreligious Dialogue and ‘Buen Vivir’ (Good Living) versus ‘development'”. The meeting was held at the Popol Ja Center for Integral Indigenous Education, in Santa Maria de Chiquimula, four hours away from Guatemala City. Native and Afro-Native people, Jesuits and lay people from 13 countries, from Mexico to Chile, discussed how “Buen Vivir” takes form in indigenous realities, with special focus on women, youth and migrants. The following article is full of reflections, questions, proposals, notes. It is an exercise in narrating ourselves from diversity and interculturalism in order to move together towards a full and fulfilled life. Read more…
