Fr. General Arturo Sosa said recently that “migrations challenge our existence as Christians”. If every year four thousand people lose their lives by drowning in the Mediterranean Sea while trying to escape from war and hunger, no great inquiries are needed to find out what the God of the blessings is calling us to. Today we are called to accompany and serve migrants in their journey, sharing our bread with them and making their sufferings and struggles our own. At the same time, we must work to transform a system that depletes the natural resources of the poor, supports authoritarian regimes and feeds armed conflicts, shutting then borders and also its eyes to the millions who are calling at our doors as a consequence of all that.
