On June 27, the U.S. Senate voted 68-32 in favour of S.744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013. Despite providing a pathway to citizenship for many undocumented people, the bill drastically militarizes the U.S.-Mexico border and fails to effectively ensure humane treatment of migrants.
