“God is here, I can sense him” were the first words I wrote down in the notepad that we had been given at the beginning of the 5-day workshop in Drongen, Belgium. I had not heard of Common Apostolic Discernment before and had no idea what I was letting myself in for. But I liked the idea of going on retreat with 24 people from all over the world, men (18) and women (6), religious (17) and lay people (7). We were told that we were to look at the signs of the times to get a glimpse of what God’s plans might be. The basic assumption would be that God is at work in the world anyway (visible in those signs of the times) and that we, as individuals and as Church, were invited to join him in his efforts.
