As part of the ?Abril Indigena? (Indigenous April) celebrations in Brazil, a monument to Br Vicente Cañas SJ was inaugurated on 20 April in the city of Cuiabà, Mato Grosso. Vincente Cañas SJ lived with the of Enawene-Nawe tribe from 1974 to 1987. He became ?persona non grata? among the local landowners when he got involved in the struggle of the tribe to keep its own land and was subsequently murdered by contracted killers.
