WSF Caracas: Reflecting on social action

On the fourth day of the Caracas WSF there was an interesting and well-attended workshop on ?The Social Action of the Church: sharing our experiences,? in which members of the Jesuit delegation actively participated. Organised by Colectivo Iglesia, a group of Church-based organisations, including Fe y Alegria and Centro Gumilla, the aim of the workshop was to exchange, and reflect upon, positive experiences of social action initiated by groups and institutions linked to the Church. Jorge Julio Mejia SJ, Social Apostolate Coordinator for the Latin American Assistancies, talked about peace work in Colombia, while Martino Lenz SJ described the initiatives undertaken by the Brazilians? Bishop Conference to fight poverty and hunger, and Chepe Núñez SJ, from the Jesuit Migration Service, spoke about initiatives in favour of migrants? rights. Finally, Pedro Trigo SJ, after presenting four more successful experiences, reflected on them systematically so as to identify lessons learned and best practices. IRFA, the radio institute of Fe y Alegria, made an important contribution to the WSF. Together with the Latin American Association for Radio Education, it aired news live from the Forum for the benefit of listeners across Latin America.
